Why You Have to Pay to Meet Our Puppies (And Why That's a Good Thing)
We get this question a lot — and it almost always comes from the same place: someone saw a puppy on our Instagram, fell in love, and wants to know why they can't just stop by to meet them before deciding to adopt.
It's a completely understandable reaction. You're not trying to be difficult, you just want to meet your potential new family member. But the honest answer is: because that's how we keep this rescue running without ever having to ask for a donation, and it’s also how that puppy is available for adoption. Someone else bought a ticket that contributed to the rehabilitation of the puppy you may be interested in.
We Are Not a Petting Zoo. We're the Rescue.
Pudgy Pups isn't a business that rents puppies for an afternoon and sends them back to a breeder or supplier when the event's over. We are the rescue. Every puppy curled up on the couch in the Pudgy Suite, climbing into a hammock during yoga, or attending through a corporate event, is one of ours — pulled from situations where they were overlooked, abandoned, or in need of a second chance.
That means there's no separate "rescue arm" asking for donations on the side while a for-profit events company runs the cuddle sessions. There's just us. One organization. And the way we fund veterinary care, vaccinations, food, parasite prevention, spay and neuter procedures, training, ICU, surgeries and everything else a rescue puppy needs is through the very sessions you're booking.
When you pay for a cuddle session or a class, you're not paying a cover charge to see something cute. You're funding a puppy's recovery.
Why We Don't Allow Walk-In Adoption Visits
We know it might seem simpler to just open the door and let people pop in to say hi. But we've built our model very deliberately around not doing that, for a few reasons.
Our puppies need calm, structured environments — not a revolving door.
Many of our pups arrive with rough starts: neglect, malnutrition, little to no socialization. Predictable, capped, well-managed sessions let us control group size, noise, and handling so the experience builds trust instead of stress. A constant stream of unscheduled walk-ins would undo a lot of that work.
Sessions are part of their preparation for adoption.
Every cuddle session and class is also socialization time. It's how our puppies learn to be comfortable around new people, new hands, and new environments — skills that make their eventual adoption smoother and their forever home transition easier. It's not just an experience for you; it's part of their development.
It protects the adoption process itself.
We intentionally don't let people meet our adoptable puppies through Instagram DMs or casual drop-ins. The only way to meet our current adoptable pups is through a class, a cuddle session, or one of our events. This keeps the process fair, keeps our puppies safe from impulse decisions, and means everyone who meets them is already part of the Pudgy Pups community by helping fund the rescue.
No Donation Jar Required
We do have an Amazon wishlist and a GoFundMe for the moments when extra help is needed — but they're not how we keep the lights on.
Instead, every booking is the fundraiser. Buy a ticket to puppy yoga, and you've just covered a new blanket or a pack of pee-pads. Book a corporate event for your team, and you've funded a round of vaccinations. Bring the pups to your kid's birthday party, and you've helped pay for the food that's getting a malnourished puppy back to a healthy weight.
It's a model built so that the people having the best time in the room are also the ones making the rescue possible — no separate ask required.
So What Are You Actually Paying For?
When you book a session with us, your ticket covers:
Veterinary care and vaccinations
Nutritious, species-appropriate food
Spay and neuter programs
Enrichment and training
Safe transportation and rest periods for the puppies
The space, staffing, and logistics that keep each session calm and well-run
surgeries, ICU, emergency intensive care
What you get back is real, unstructured time with rescue puppies who are getting exactly what they need to thrive — plus the knowledge that your hour of stress relief just became a puppy's healthcare.
We understand the instinct to just want to "come say hi." But the structure isn't there to keep people out — it's there to make sure the puppies in our care get the calm, consistent, well-funded environment they need to heal, grow, and eventually find their forever homes. And every single ticket is what makes that possible.
